Live Notes

  • Although one of the group's most extensively-played live songs, Drunkship was never played during 2006's Amputechture supporting tour.
  • Drunkship has been played for up to half an hour and has included volumes of un-recorded live material.
  • In 2003 and 2004, the Drunkship jam included what would later become the Descenus Facilis Avernum riff in Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus.
  • Starting in 2004 while touring with A Perfect Circle, the jam was introduced by a pentatonic-scale bridge that, while not part of the recorded version, has become a standard fixture in the song.
  • John Frusciante has joined the band to play this song on three occasions: Once on May 12, 2004 @ Wiltern Theatre. And twice more when he accompanied the band on the short 2004 South American tour, on November 4th and November 5th, 2004.
  • In 2005, the jam was utilized to flesh out several musical ideas, some of which went on to become, in some form of another, part of Omar's scores for both El Bufalo De La Noche and The Burning Plain. Some of these riffs were sometimes transposed to jams during Cassandra Gemini during the same time period.
  • In 2005, jams were frequently concluded with mellow flute/guitar interplay before abruptly moving into the final movement.
  • In early 2006 during the conclusion of the Frances the Mute tour, the jam included a major-key section.
  • In 2007, the jam was curtailed a few minutes of ambience.
  • From 2008 European tour dates and on, the jam was again extended and used to flesh out unrecorded musical concepts.
  • In 2009, the jam was cut entirely from the song, although the pentatonic-scale bridge remained.

Lyrics for Drunkship of Lanterns

You've got the lot to burn. A shelve of pig smothered cries.
Is there a spirit that spits upon the exit of signs? Is anybody there?
These steps keep on growing long.
Bayonet trials rust propellers await...
No...Nobody is heard, rowing sheep smiles for the dead.
Nobody is heard..an antiquated home.
A float with engines on mute.
Sui generis ship spined around the yard.
Is anybody there ? These craft only multiply.
At the nape of ruins rust propellers await...
No... Nobody is heard, compass wilting in the wind. Nobody is heard.
Rowing sheep smile for the dead. Transoceanic depth in this earth - in this cenotaph.

Lash of one thousand eye brows clicking. Counting the toll. Counting the toll.

You've got the lot to burn. A shelve of pig smothered cries.
Is there a spirit that spits upon the exit of signs.

Is anybody there ?
These steps keep on growing long.
Bayonet trials rust propellers await..
Nobody is heard, compass wilting in the wind. Nobody is heard,
rowing sheep smile for the dead. Transoceanic depth in this earth in this cenotaph.
Carpel jets......Hit the ground. Carpel jets...Hit the ground..

Lash of one thousand eyebrows clicking. Counting the toll. Counting the toll.
