Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group - Live in New York City, New York

September 17th, 2010 @ Highline Ballroom

Notes

Un Buitre Amable Me Pico, Poincaré, No Hay Más Respuestas, Miel Del Ojo & Lorentz were recorded and released as part of You’re Welcome (どういたしまして) .

For a few brief shows Omar put together what would become the final The Mars Volta line-up (for nearly a decade), minus Cedric and plus Ximena, and cranked out some unique synth powered shows that were unlike anything we had heard from him. Deantoni’s inclusion gave us an indication that the future of The Mars Volta was going to be a sharp, but fitting deviation from the classic Volta paradigm. These shows feature songs from Solar Gambling, a variety of albums from the Ipecac series, and a few that still are not released.  This line-up only played a tiny number of performances before reformatting into The Mars Volta.  That said it is amazing they sound as tight as they do considering they allegedly only rehearsed the material a small handful of times. Bored to Burns rips here.

Tour Era

Since its inception in 2001 The Mars Volta always seemed to be building and growing; longer songs, more members, bigger set pieces, more equipment, and more bad online flash games promoting their albums.  When Octahedron was announced it was the first time in eight years that the band had taken a step back and scaled down.  Band members Adrián Terrazas-González and Paul Hinojos had also been removed from ... read more
