HALO ORBIT will release their self-titled debut album in February 2017, a burst of 21st-century rock music incorporating electronic, hip hop, funk and soul. Having enlisted contributions from guests such as Del the Funky Homosapien, Lisa Papineau, Money Mark Ramos-Nishita, Adrian Terrazas Gonzalez and Marcel Rodriguez Lopez, HALO ORBIT are truly a force unlike any other, and will tour the record through 2017.
The musicians comprising HALO ORBIT represent three different corners of the map, literally and figuratively. The group consists of Grammy Award-winning bassist Juan Alderete (The Mars Volta, Deltron 3030), guitarist/synth player suGar Yoshinaga (Buffalo Daughter, Metalchicks), and drummer Mark Guiliana (David Bowie, John Scofield, Brad Mehldau). Each member brings a distinctive style and musical pedigree to the proverbial table that gels in every instance on their debut.
With Alderete based in Los Angeles, Guiliana in New York, and Yoshinaga in Tokyo, the group effectively exists in three places at once, a mindset that, not surprisingly, finds its way into their vigorous, evocative music. Drawing comparisons to peers as disparate as Battles and Portishead, HALO ORBIT mold their own breed of futuristic rock, a volatile landscape of overdriven dub punctuated by textural nuances and delicate arrangements. They capture an air of unpredictability that is charged through a fluid state of connection. Alderete and Yoshinaga first met in the late nineties when Buffalo Daughter toured the U.S. supporting Girls Against Boys. Well over a decade of mutual admiration later, a musical collaboration between the two finally began taking shape. During the winter of 2012, they convened in Los Angeles with drummer Guiliana, writing nearly an album’s worth of tracks that they immediately recorded with engineer Robert Carranza (Beck, One Day As A Lion, Blackalicious, Jack Johnson).
The resultant self-titled debut will at long last be released January 2017 on L.A.-based Alpha Pup Records, home to Jonwayne, Nosaj Thing, The Gaslamp Killer, Milo, Daedelus, Mndsgn, Josef Leimberg, Dibiase, Free The Robots and many others. Alpha Pup head and Low End Theory founder Daddy Kev, who took on mastering duties earlier in 2016, completed the final mixes of HALO ORBIT over the summer.
Before hitting the road in support of the album, HALO ORBIT will make their debut live performance at Low End Theory on February 15, 2017. The Low End Theory show will be presented in conjunction with the album’s worldwide release, with further touring commencing in Japan and other select regions around the globe.
