Jim Ward was at this show which led to him rejoining the band. Per an interview with Buddyhead:
“They came back and had one show in El Paso and I went to see them and it was really hard to watch them play. I felt that I had grown up a lot and realized that I had to be less of a control freak and stuff like that. It was hard to watch them play. They were awesome. I watched about 3 songs and then went outside. Then I went and got drunk with Omar and I cried and told him the only thing I really wanted to do in life was play with them whether it be At the Drive-In or after At the Drive-In or anything. I said, “If you ever need another player, please call me.” I totally put him on the spot and I was faded. Then we started just hanging out, and it was a huge opportunity to just admit your shortcomings and failures and grow as a human being. We were all friends, and I became friends with Tony and Pall after that. We kicked back and hung out for awhile, it wasn’t like I jumped right in. It wasn’t like I was coming back to the same band either. It was like joining a different band cos everything had been taken up a level and I had to learn a whole new process. I had to learn how to tour immediately which I had never done before. We had done a month here and a week there, but it was all sugar coated. These guys went through hell.”
