Notes
The Volta ended their initial run with a whimper, no doubt, but the Euro 2012 tour still has some positive moments. You can’t really go wrong with any of the available recordings from this tour, they all sound somewhat the same with competent takes on Noctourniquet tracks with some pretty solid jams after The Malkin Jewel and Trinkets Pale of Moon as well. Koln has been my go to show from this era. The recording is great for a bootleg, Cedric sounds solid, and there is a bit of oomph from the band. Perhaps if they got to tour this material in 2010 or 2011 when it was fresh in Omar’s mind it would have been even better.

Tour Era
As was often the case with The Mars Volta, the end of a tour often indicated the next album was just right around the corner, its menacing fangs peering in the shadows. Things instead were a little more confusing than that this time around, with a plethora of mixed signals and false starts that ultimately led to the band’s splintering.
