Octopus Kool Aid was the last Omar Rodriguez-Lopez solo album to receive a physical release until the Clouds Hill boxset (excluding his collaboration with Faust where Faust is billed first). It was also his last solo album to receive a physical release in collaboration with Sargent House. It is his first album to feature Teri Saurez as a vocalist. It is a continuation of his then growing shift away from guitar centric music and focusing more on electronic and synth based music. It is the first album to feature engineering by his brother Marcel. Some songs would be played live by his solo group in 2012.
“Octopus Kool Aid is an album that was completed in February of 2011, and then sat in the wild strawberries vault until its release in June of 2012.”
“Another album inspired by the experience of illness and death, this time with a more hopeful focus.” – Clouds Hill
