Release Notes
Liner Notes
While never confirmed, there is significant evidence to suggest this album is The Somnabulists, but with a radically different mix. The album artwork is by Julio Venegas who De-Loused in the Comatorium is based off of and was a childhood friend of Cedric and Omar’s.
Presser:
“This is the oldest record in the series and features sessions with original Mars Volta members Ikey Owens, Eva Gardner and Jon Theodore. John Frusciante guests. 2012.”
“Older material from 2002 combined with songs from 2006, finished a year later and released in 2016: An album with a lifespan of 14 years.” – Clouds Hill
There is a significant lack of clarity about the origin of the songs on this album including when they were written and recorded. It is possible some of this material was rerecorded at various points. This is due to similar tracks appearing in the 2013 leak with seemingly different takes. The best theory is that the album is assembled from two different attempts or sessions, one in 2002 and one somewhere between 2006 and 2008.
